An Overdue Recap (posted by Josh)

My wife wanted to create this blog as a means of letting our friends and family know what's been going on in our lives. She wanted to post pictures, perhaps share a recipe or two so that everyone can drool over whatever tasty masterpiece we've been working on. In addition to that pictures and stories of our trendy DIY projects or visits to cool exciting places would flood the feed of this blog showing everyone how interesting our lives are. Sadly this has not been the case. I could say that it is has been due to the fact that we're having so much fun we can't seem to find the time to gloat about it, and that would be partially true, but mostly we have been busy with just life.

I don't want you to get the wrong idea. I think that "just life" is the most exciting thing ever. I personally think that every day is a gift and not only that but an amazing one with bountiful possibilities and opportunities. I also think I can say with confidence that I think my wife feels the same way. (judging mostly by her excessive smiling)

All that being said, it is now well into the new year and with January coming to an end, I think it is about time that I wrote the yearly update for our family, the Wilkinson's of Peebles street. Before I start I will just say that I am writing this by I myself being that my wife is very busy today (and most other days) so I hope she will forgive me if I forget anything important or err in my narrative.

First I will start by saying that the year 2013 has been kind to our family in matters of health. Both my wife and I have not had more than a cold or two from time to time and we can only thank God for that blessing. The year started off a bit rocky for us with our old faithful Honda dying on us back in March, but we were blessed by being able to afford its replacement, a new Honda Civic. Its blue a fact that I am very happy about.

My job working for Trinity has been great. I have found contentment working here though it is far from exciting. However given my previous employment, at a pizza place in Wilkinsburg, was filled with a little bit too much excitement so I have no complaint on that matter This summer was a bit of a change working during the day. The work was happily challenging and I had the opportunity to manage a crew of five people while my boss was on vacation for three weeks. I was quite excited for the chance to be "the big boss" if only for a little while.

My wife's job has been busy but irregular. For those of you that don't know she only works full time during about six months out of the year, but it is safe to say that they are a hectic six months. On a few occasions my wife has found herself working upwards of sixty hours and driving all the way to West Virginia for some jobs. It seems to me that every fall or spring season more or less upsets our schedules, habits, and my housework contributions, but the change is not unwelcome as it is always a good thing to meet new challenges.

As far as our travels go, we were able to make a trip up to Canandaigua, New York for a wedding of one of Casey's friends, as well as make a trip down to Burlington, North Carolina to see my grandma and my aunt, uncle, and cousin.

Last Spring I completed my first year at the Community College of Allegheny County, and am now halfway to completing my Associates in Business. Unfortunately I wasn't able to return in the fall due to a change I my assistance grants from the state, a circumstance hope to see amended this year if at all possible.  As a substitute while awaiting to further my education I've taken up two new hobbies both of which have been desires of mine for quite some time, the delicious art of bread baking, and the construction of furniture. Both of these have proven to be thoroughly enjoyable pastimes as well as helping to round out my education in this vast arena of learning that is life.

Those are the "big happenings" of our 2013 year, but the real joy lies in the day to day, the stuff that if I were to tell you all the little things that made my heart soar, or my eyes tear up would keep you scrolling here forever. (or make you leave out of boredom) However I will say this that I have been filled with great joy this year in all the wonderful blessings that the Lord has showered upon me and my family, the opportunities, the good times, the delicious food, and our relationships with all of you wonderful people. I pray that as we move into 2014 we will find it a new and exciting adventure, a blessing, and a wonderful reason to praise God and I hope you find the same.

Summer (Posted by Josh)

So here it is our first blog post since the turn of the new year. It's kind of been a back burner thing for us these last few months. Just to fill you in our spring has been quite a hectic one as both Casey and I have had full work schedules to deal with as well as me taking on a full set of classes. Lots of things have fallen by the wayside, (besides this blog) but now with Casey's work finally coming to a close as of last week, and me being done with classes since early May as well as switching to the summer daylight switch things are starting to settle back down into their more natural order.

Our summer has started full force however and even with the extra time things just seem to crowd on in. Weddings, graduations, parties, relatives visiting, visiting relatives, the ever returning pile of dirty dishes, vacation Bible school at our church as well as the fun plans that the two of us have for just us all seem to have ever increasing demands for our time. It is only the second week of June and already I feel my schedule is full. The Lord has given us twenty-four hours a day however, and I assure you we are making every effort to make the most of every moment.

So far we have already taken a trip to the beautiful finger lakes to go see Casey's aunt and uncle, as well as go to a wedding for one of her friends at the church she attended while she lived in Canandaigua. I think the trip was a nice bit of R&R for the both of us, although for Casey it was a bit of a working vacation as she agreed to use her photography skills on behalf of the bride.

The next few weeks hold a couple of interesting events. The three most important ones are a wedding this  weekend for some of our longtime friends, the arrival for the summer missions team at Covenant Fellowship at the end of the month, and the preparations for the VBS I mentioned earlier, of which both Casey and I will be taking significant roles in; Her volunteering to run the crafts and I getting to run the games.

I can already tell it is going to be an exhausting summer but I know that it will be a blast as well. We pray and hope for the strength to accomplish everything that God has put  before us to do. We thank you for taking the time to get a small picture of where we've been these last few months and more importantly where we're going in the months to come.

Going Out

So, tonight I have decided to make an effort and write our first post. Casey and I decided to make this blog over a week ago and seem to have had a little trouble getting started. While it isn't exactly perfect or the way we want it yet (like deciding on a name) I have feel it is important just to get the writing process going. Tonight we are making our way downtown to go ice skating at PPG Place. If you've never been there I would certainly recommend it as it has been a fun spot to check out and enjoy the surroundings of downtown Pittsburgh. Last time we went was during Christmas so we go to see the huge tree they had set up there reflecting off of all the dark glass of the PPG building.

In the coming months Casey and I will be spending time doing the same things we always do and that is cool fun stuff. The only difference is that we have decided to share all of these goings-on with you, our family and friends. So stop by occasionally and check out what we are up to. We'll be posting pictures of places we're going, things we're doing, and food we're cooking. Casey will probably be posting more of that since she gets more excited about the cooking. I just like the eating mostly. Through this blog we hope to chronicle the daily life and events of everyone's favorite young couple, us. So here's to a year of fun, blogging, and Casey re-posting this after she finds all the grammar errors.
